Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 8 August 2026

Prowess Devices (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates prowessdevices.com and our physical store in Lagos, Nigeria, selling phones, laptops, video games, accessories, and offering device repair services. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the regulations issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

By using our website, placing an order, or bringing a device in for repair, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you give us

  • Full name, phone number, and email address
  • Delivery address and, where applicable, billing address
  • Order details — items purchased, quantities, colour and storage configuration selected
  • Repair intake details — device make/model, IMEI/serial number, reported fault, and any passcode you choose to provide to our technicians for diagnostic purposes
  • Messages you send us via WhatsApp, email, phone, or our contact form

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • IP address, browser type, device type, and general location (city/state level)
  • Pages viewed, time spent on the site, and referring website, collected via cookies and similar technologies

1.3 Payment information

Payments on prowessdevices.com are processed through SaySwitch, our third-party payment gateway. We do not collect or store your full card number, CVV, or online banking login details on our own servers — these are entered directly into SaySwitch’s secure payment page and handled under SaySwitch’s own privacy and security policies. We receive only a payment confirmation, transaction reference, and the last four digits of the card used, where applicable.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To process, confirm, and deliver your orders
  • To diagnose, quote, and carry out repairs you have booked with us
  • To communicate with you about your order or repair status, via phone, SMS, email, or WhatsApp
  • To respond to enquiries, complaints, and warranty claims
  • To improve our website, product range, and customer service
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorised transactions
  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations applicable to us in Nigeria

3. Legal Basis for Processing

Under the NDPA 2023, we process your personal data on one or more of the following bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to fulfil an order or repair you have requested
  • Consent — for example, when you opt in to marketing messages or provide a device passcode for repairs
  • Legitimate interest — to keep our records accurate, prevent fraud, and improve our services, balanced against your rights
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to retain records for tax, consumer protection, or regulatory purposes

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only where necessary, with:

  • SaySwitch, to process your payment securely
  • Delivery and logistics partners, to fulfil and track your order
  • Manufacturer or authorised service partners, where a repair or warranty claim needs to be escalated beyond our in-house bench
  • Regulators or law enforcement, where required by Nigerian law
  • Professional advisers (e.g. auditors, legal counsel), under confidentiality obligations

We require any third party we share data with to protect it in line with applicable data protection law.

5. Data Storage and Security

We store customer and order data on reputable hosting and business systems, and apply reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and while we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, including any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Order and transaction records are typically retained for the period required under Nigerian tax and consumer protection law. Repair intake records, including reported device faults, are retained for warranty-tracking purposes and then securely deleted or anonymised.

7. Your Rights Under the NDPA 2023

As a data subject, you have the right to:

  • Be informed about how your data is collected and used
  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data, subject to our legal retention obligations
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, including direct marketing
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your data rights have been violated

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@prowessdevices.com. We will respond within the timeframe required under the NDPA.

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website uses cookies to keep your cart working correctly, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use our site. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the website — such as checkout — may not function properly without them.

9. Devices Brought in for Repair

When you bring a device in for repair, our technicians may access data on the device solely to diagnose and fix the reported issue. We do not read, copy, or share personal content (photos, messages, contacts) found on your device. We recommend backing up your device and, where possible, removing sensitive data before drop-off, as we are not responsible for data loss during the repair process.

10. Children’s Privacy

Our products and services are not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors without the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The “Effective Date” at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of our website or services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
